Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Ask us directly — we reply within one business day.

What does Fusion Relocations do?

We move individuals and businesses internationally and within the UAE — professional packing, loading, customs clearance and delivery, backed by 100+ certified partner agents worldwide.

How long has Fusion been in service?

Since 2010 — one of the UAE's most experienced relocation companies, with thousands of family and corporate moves and a 4.9-star Google rating earned along the way.

Is Fusion Relocations ISO certified?

Yes — ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, plus full membership of IAM, GLA, PAIMA, PCG, WFN and GFP.

Do you offer cargo insurance?

Yes — comprehensive all-risk cover for every shipment, domestic and international. We advise on the right level based on the value and nature of your goods.

What's the difference between FCL and LCL shipping?

FCL gives your goods a whole container — best for larger homes. LCL shares a container with others and is more economical for smaller volumes. We recommend the right fit at your survey.

Before you book

The practical details, answered straight

The parts of an international move people most often ask about — costs, freight choices, timings and insurance — explained without the sales layer.

What actually determines the cost of an international move

Almost every quote you will be given comes down to four things, and knowing them makes the numbers you receive comparable rather than mysterious. The first is volume — how much space your belongings occupy, measured in cubic metres or cubic feet, not what they weigh. The second is the route, and specifically whether your destination is served directly from Jebel Ali or needs a transhipment. The third is the mode: a sole-use container, a share of one, or air freight. The fourth is the level of service — whether we are packing everything, packing the fragile items only, or delivering to the door and leaving you to unpack.

Everything else is detail on top of those four. A survey exists to fix the first one honestly, because a quote built on a guess at volume is the single most common reason a final invoice does not match the estimate that won the business.

Sea freight, shared containers and air freight

A sole-use container is the straightforward option for a full household: your shipment travels on its own, is sealed at your home, and is not waiting on anyone else’s cargo. It is normally the best value per cubic metre once you are moving the contents of a two-bedroom home or larger.

A shared container — groupage — puts your goods in with other consignments going the same way. You pay for the space you use rather than the whole box, which is why it suits smaller shipments. The trade-off is timing: a shared container leaves when it is full and is unpacked at a depot at the other end, so it involves more handling and less control over the schedule.

Air freight is for the things you cannot be without, or for a shipment small enough that the speed is worth the rate. Many moves use both: a small air consignment covering the first weeks, and the household following by sea. We will price the combinations rather than push you to one.

Leaving a Dubai property: what the building will ask for

The part of a move out of the UAE that catches people out is rarely the shipping. It is the building. Most towers and communities in Dubai will not let a moving crew work until the paperwork is in order, and each item takes time you may not have budgeted.

  • A move-out permit or NOC from the building management or the community developer, usually applied for several working days ahead and often naming the moving company.
  • Proof of a cleared DEWA account, and where the property is on district cooling, a cleared chiller account — frequently a separate provider and a separate final bill.
  • A settled Ejari and, in many communities, written confirmation from the landlord or agent that the tenancy is ending.
  • A booked service lift slot. In high-rise buildings this is the real constraint: lifts are booked by the hour and weekends fill first.
  • The mover’s insurance certificate lodged with building management, sometimes naming the building as an interested party.

We handle the mover’s side of that list as a matter of course and tell you early which parts only you can do, because a permit that has not been applied for stops a crew at reception regardless of how well the shipping was planned.

When to start

The useful rule is to book the survey as soon as the move is real, even if the date is not fixed. A survey costs you nothing and produces the one number — your volume — that everything else depends on. From there the constraints reveal themselves in a predictable order: the immigration or visa position at destination, the school admission window if you have children, the notice period on your Dubai tenancy, and only then the shipping calendar.

Moves that go badly are almost never moves that went wrong on the water. They are moves where a date was promised to an employer or a landlord before anyone checked what the date required.

What door to door actually includes

The phrase is used loosely in this industry, so it is worth being specific about what it means when we use it. It means a survey and a written scope before anything is committed; export packing at your home in Dubai by our own crew, with a written inventory; export formalities in the UAE; the freight itself; import formalities at destination, including the transfer-of-residence relief application where the country offers one and you qualify; delivery into the property, to the room you want each item in; and removal of the packing debris. Where a step is not included — and there are legitimate reasons for that on some routes — we say so in the quote rather than leave you to discover it.

Insurance, and what a valuation actually is

Transit insurance on a household shipment is not priced on what your belongings cost when new, and it is not a fixed percentage of the freight. It is priced on the replacement value you declare, item by item for the high-value pieces and by category for the rest. Two things follow from that. Under-declaring to save premium leaves you carrying the difference on a claim, and declaring without an itemised list makes a claim slow and contestable. We will walk through the valuation with you before the shipment moves rather than hand you a form to fill in.
