The half of the move that happens after arrival

Getting a container to the destination is the visible half. What determines whether an assignee is productive in week one is everything that happens after it lands — clearance, delivery into the right property, and the practical business of living somewhere new.

What our destination partners handle

Import clearance

, including the household-goods relief application where the destination country offers one and the assignee qualifies.

Delivery and placement

into the room of choice, not left in the hall.

Unpacking and debris removal

, so the first evening is not spent flattening cartons.

Storage at destination

when the property is not ready — common on corporate moves, where the start date is fixed and the lease is not.

Practical orientation

: registration requirements, utilities, schools and neighbourhoods.

Why the partner matters

The destination agent is the company that carries your employee’s belongings into their home. We work with partners we have used before and can vouch for, and your Dubai coordinator stays the point of contact throughout — so an issue at destination is raised with someone who already knows the shipment, not a company the assignee has never dealt with.

Which services are available differs by country. Tell us the destination and we will confirm exactly what applies there.

Arrival week, in order

The week an assignee lands is the week the assignment is judged on, so it is worth planning rather than improvising. In practice it runs: arrival and temporary accommodation if the permanent property is not ready; the registration or residency formality that most countries require within a fixed window of arrival; utilities and connectivity at the new address; a bank account, which in several countries cannot be opened until the registration is done; then delivery of the shipment once the property is habitable. Sequencing matters because several of those steps are prerequisites for the ones after them — a shipment delivered before the property has power is a shipment delivered into a problem.

Temporary accommodation and the gap

The gap between arrival and the permanent property being available is the most common source of unbudgeted cost on a corporate move. It produces storage charges, a second delivery, and an assignee living out of a suitcase while their belongings sit at a depot. Where the gap is known in advance it can be planned around — a partial air shipment covering the first weeks, the sea shipment held deliberately, one delivery rather than two. Where it is discovered on arrival, all of those options cost more.

The dates that matter

Schools, and why they set the date

For assignees with children, the school place usually determines the move date rather than the start date does. Admission windows are fixed, places at the preferred school are finite, and in several destinations the application requires an address, which requires a lease, which requires the assignee to be in country. Raising this at the briefing rather than at the survey is the single change that most often prevents a relocation from slipping a term.

Handing over

Destination support is finite by design. It covers the period in which the assignee cannot yet do things for themselves — typically the first weeks, through registration, delivery and settling the property. After that the programme should hand over, and the assignee should be operating normally rather than routing everyday questions through their employer. We agree where that line sits before the move rather than letting it drift.
