Transfer of Residence (ToR1) is HMRC’s post-Brexit regime for importing household goods to the UK when transferring residence. It replaces the pre-Brexit EU removal goods framework and applies equally to all parts of the UK — including Scotland. To qualify: you must have lived outside the UK for at least 12 consecutive months; goods must have been owned and in use for at least 6 months; and goods must not be sold or transferred for 12 months after import. LBTT (Land and Buildings Transaction Tax) is Scotland’s property purchase tax, administered by Revenue Scotland. It is entirely separate from English Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) and has different rates, thresholds, and structure. For buyers who are purchasing their only property in Scotland as their primary residence, the rates and thresholds differ from England. Dogs and cats from the UAE need: ISO microchip; valid rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before travel; a blood titre test at a UK-approved laboratory (result 0.5 IU/ml or above); and a health certificate from an officially authorised UAE government veterinarian. Given the titre test preparation timeline, pet preparation for a Scotland move should begin at least 3–4 months before planned departure.
