Polish Customs When Moving from Dubai: The Plain-English Guide

What is transfer-of-residence?
In Poland it is customs duty relief for personal property (mienie przesiedlenia): the customs relief that lets you bring your used household goods in without paying customs duty. It has to be claimed correctly, with the right paperwork, and we handle the whole claim as standard on every move to Poland.
Conditions for the relief
- You have lived outside the EU without interruption for at least 12 months.
- You have owned the goods — and used them, unless they are consumables — for at least 6 months before leaving, and will use them the same way in Poland.
- They are cleared within 12 months of taking up residence in Poland, in one shipment or several.
- For 12 months after clearance, they are not passed on — including by renting or leasing.

Timing matters most
The relief is requested with the customs declaration, together with a list of the items with quantities and values, in two copies. Goods shipped before you move need a guarantee and a commitment to take up residence within 6 months. We track the shipment so the paperwork is ready when your goods reach customs.

The relief, in plain English

Do I need a PESEL number first?
It’s the smoothest path (it anchors your residence evidence), but our partner can advise alternatives if your registration is still in progress.

Whichever is faster and cheaper when you ship; both are routine and the customs relief is identical. Your quote compares the two.
Can I bring my car duty-free?
Possibly — it depends on the current rules and your circumstances. We check them for your specific car at survey, before you commit to shipping it.
How long does Polish clearance take?
A few working days with a complete file. Incomplete paperwork — not inspections — is what generates bonded-warehouse fees.
